"... Attending the youth assembly at the UN was a pivotal moment for me, considering my past life experience and the content of the letter that I wrote to myself. This life-changing event offered me real hope for the future. Having heard talks by senior UN staff, representatives of non-governmental organizations and diplomats from the UN missions, I feel responsibility as a young leader to help achieve these goals by 2015. ..."

4th Annual Youth Assembly

In 2007, the 4th annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations focused on social entrepreneurship. With 700 youth leadership delegates from over 52 countries, the Youth Assembly was a very active event, pairing youth leaders with global campaigns related to the MDGs. The event is always participatory, involving young people with civil society in real and meaningful ways while also training them in how to make their own NGO projects and organizations when they return home.

World famous speakers, such as Angelique Kidjo (UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador), Dr. Arun Gandhi (grandson of India’s legendary leader Gandhi), Dr. Jeffrey Sachs (United Nations Director, Millennium Development Project) and many others spoke about the accomplishments and challenges regarding the Millennium Development Goals so far – and our responsibility going forward to realize all the goals by 2015.

Kathy Ireland, Life Style Designer and supermodel, hosted a special luncheon for Youth Achievement Awardees at the Delegates’ Dining Lounge. The large hip-hop community in New York City hosted an orientation and closing party and the Turkish Mission to the UN hosted Campaign and Culture nights during the intensive, three day event.
