Get to know the people and culture of the Dominican Republic in a truly meaningful way. Visit Puerto Plata and be transported back to the time of Columbus as you visit Fort San Felipe and learn about how Dominican history was shaped by the colonization of the Spaniards. Puerto Plata was discovered by Columbus in the early 1490s and the port was a bustling trade point for decades. Puerto Plata also has a fascinating Amber Museum that has plants and animals preserved in amber from millions of years ago.
